Projects
BACPAR have now produced two sets of evidence based guidelines – see Publications.
BACPAR is currently updating the 2003 guidelines and has developed guidance for the prevention of falls.
Individual members are engaged in research and audit projects with the support of BACPAR. Audit based on the BACPAR guidelines takes place around the country from which findings and examples of changes to practice are regularly published in the BACPAR journals.
BACPAR advises and contributes information to the CSP, and to various government and Department of health committees and working groups, such as the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) and APLLG (Associate Parliamentary Limb Loss Group).
In conjunction with the University of Bradford, BACPAR has developed an accredited postgraduate certificate in amputee rehabilitation. This is at Masters level and can be incorporated into a full Masters degree qualification. See Education.

National and local study days
National and local study days are held throughout the year for teaching purposes
as well as for discussion and dissemination of ideas. They address specific
physiotherapy and multidisciplinary issues in the field of amputee rehabilitation.
Study days are very popular and are often oversubscribed. Recent topics have included the holistic approach to amputee
rehabilitation, pain management, gait training, falls strategies,
outcome measures, and multiple limb loss. An award is presented to the
best speaker at each national study day.
Substantially reduced rates for BACPAR events are available to all members.
Please contact BACPAR’s PRO Matthew Fuller to find out about regional study days.
BACPAR also attends the CSP Congress, ARC (Annual Representatives Conference – organised
by the CSP), British Association of Prosthetics and Orthotics (BAPO) and the
International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) annual conferences,
and are represented at various other professions’ study days throughout
the year.
